Wheaton Regional Park in Maryland

Wheaton Regional Park is a great place to go with children from ages 1.5-10 years old. The park is located just outside of Silver Spring, Maryland, and offers many different slides, swings, and things to climb on. However, what really makes this place fun is the merry-go-round ($1.75 per ride) and the 15 minute train ride($1.75 per ride). The train is not only fun because of it being on a train (who doesn't love trains!), but also fun because the route through the woods is scenic and makes the children have a greater appreciation for nature. This park also offers many gazebo's with areas to grill and spend time with family and friends.

  2. Tickets are only required for riders over 3 years old... so up to 2 years and 364 days old you can ride for free! The book of tickets is a good deal if you live nearby and will visit often. The construction to the playground area is GREAT! There are many picnic pavilions that are ALWAYS crowded on nice days and esp weekends with large family parties, birthday parties, etc. Either reserve through MCP or get there early to hold a site. Recently, the Kona Ice Truck (shave ice & ice cream) is parked near the merry go round on weekends. On weekdays I've seen buses full of pre-school kids arrive late morning to play on the playground, esp in summer. My 22 month old son especially loves riding the train with Daddy. Great place for an impromptu family picnic!!!

  3. Fun place for kids. Train tix now $3.50 each, or $31.50 for ten. Train runs May-September, carousel April-October.
There's a great hill to slide down, bring a piece of cardboard for a sled.
    Reserve gazebos in advance.
